Appropriate class of manhole top or gully top depends upon the place of instalation (according to european standard en 124:1994):
  • Class A 15 (test load > 15 kN): areas which can only be used by pedestrians and pedal cyclist
  • Class B 125 (test load > 125 kN): footways, pedestrian areas and comparable areas, car parks or car parking decks
  • Class C 250 (test load > 250 kN): for gully tops installed in the area of kerbside channals of roads which when measured from the kerb edge, extend a maximum of 0,5 m into the carriageway and a maximum of 0,2 m into the footway
  • Class D 400 (test load > 400 kn): carriageways of roads (including pedestrian streets) hard shoulders and parking areas for all types of road vehicles
